BUILDING STRONG COMMUNITIES

Global challenges are playing out in local areas.  Communities are dealing with the impacts of climate change, shifts in the economy/work, geopolitical volatility, rising inequality, stress on resources, and population growth. 

 

In the face of challenges communities are finding new solutions and building fairer local economies.  From shared energy, to cooperatives, to makers labs, to coworking. 

 

How can we best support and harness this energy in communities?  Our governance institutions must change to become facilitators, advocates, users of big data, and enablers of new business models.  More importantly, they must become visionaries, bringing engagement with the community and its activities, together with the world's best science about change and evidence of what works.  Leadership that joins the dots will build strong public policy and planning.
